BirthRoot Midwifery and Women's Health

My name is Sandra Londino. I am a certified nurse midwife, OBGYN nurse practitioner, and registered nurse. I have 2 great kids - Paloma is 15 and Samson is 13, and we live in Ithaca, New York.

As a midwife I focus on promoting the health and well-being of women and newborns through respectful, compassionate, and evidence-based care that acknowledges the inherent power and wisdom in women’s bodies. I believe that all people have a right to quality health care that respects their dignity and individuality, accurate information that allows active participation in decision-making, and family involvement as desired. The normalcy of women’s biological events is acknowledged by a “high touch, low tech” model of care that emphasizes the therapeutic use of human connection and communication, while appropriately utilizing interventions and technology only when necessary. I provide health care to women throughout the life-cycle: preconception counseling, prenatal care, labor and birth, postpartum care, newborn care, well-woman exams, family planning, menopause, and general health counseling.

I believe that birth is a normal, yet life-changing event, and the best outcomes for mother and baby are achieved with attentive, personalized, and home-based care. The evidence for safety and satisfactory outcomes in home birth is widespread and growing. Women and their families need to have the opportunity to choose midwifery care where and when they desire it.

I believe that menstruation, pregnancy, birth, and menopause are not illnesses. I believe that only medically complicated situations should be managed medically, and that the vast majority of women will go through these natural life stages without complications or problems. I believe and trust that the female body is designed perfectly to prepare for and give birth without outside interference. I affirm the power and strength of women and the importance of their health in the well-being of families, communities, and nations.

I support and welcome clients regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, age, race, ethnicity, physical ability, or religion. All services are provided in a respectful, compassionate, and professional manner.
